Come sit a while..

“Contemplation prolongs Communion and enables one to meet Christ, true God and true man, in a lasting way, to let oneself be seen by Him and to experience His Presence. When we contemplate Him in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar, Christ draws near to us and becomes more intimate to us than we are to ourselves”

– Pope John Paul II, Letter to the Bishop of Liege, Belgium 1996

I was at the Blessed Sacrament today, and came upon this quotation by Pope John Paul II again, and could not help but share..

We can contemplate and come closer to Jesus when we gaze upon Him in nature, in the love and companionship of dear friends and in the silence and yearning of our heart. He truly does know and love us more than we know and love ourselves and others.

The gift of today

Our view from the verandah of our Mt Kynoch home after an afternoon well spent dreaming dreams, sharing lives, planning plans..

The Lord has thoughtfully crafted each and every sunset, each and every afternoon.

I often forget to thank Him for crafting my life, and don’t realise how much He is truly present in each and every moment of my day.

“The heavens proclaim your wonders, O LORD,
and your faithfulness, in the assembly of the holy ones.

For who in the skies can rank with the LORD?
Who is like the LORD among the sons of God?

Psalms 89: 6-7

To Fully Become

…Go beyond yourself

… Trust and rely on God’s strength and grace

… God has a purpose for your life. Be open, act on it and trust God.

I opened my bible tonight and read the scribbles on the front pages.. I had written a few words that came to me  in Maryland USA in October 2009 at the National Shrine of America, where my mom gifted me with an Ignatian RSV, brown leather bible. This gift, and the words that came to my spirit that day, is alive more than 8 years later, and is still bringing me hope.

Have you ever wondered what your purpose in life is?

Tonight I prayed to the Lord for understanding and clarity.. He gave me these words from the book of Proverbs. We should often pray for the gift of wisdom to help us understand and follow our purpose in the ‘duty of the present moment”.

PROVERBS 2:1-181

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding: yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search or it as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart. and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;discretion will watch over you; understanding will guide you…

Peace, and Wisdom be with us always as we entrust our lives to His care.

Transitions – changing Gods trials into triumphs

I’m on my 2nd week doing an online Ignatian retreat that has quieted, weaned and comforted my soul during this time of transition and reflection. I am trying to understand  on Gods purpose for my life, as I approach the next leg of this journey in faith. This excerpt from Margaret Silf has blessed me greatly…

The Challenges of Life

Taken from DOTMAGIS EDITOR

When we are in transition, depending on how serious the breakdown is, we may feel as though almost every aspect of life has been disrupted. The old certainties, the old habits and comfort zones, have been dive-bombed. The old home, the old job, the old “me,” may be almost gone. It may be the time to ask, “What is that essential core of who I am that remains through all this upheaval?” This is an important question, because it is this remnant that will be the starter for the new stage of our growth.

The thing about this remnant, this core of being, is that we often don’t discover it until the force of change has stripped away the outer layers of past certainties and securities. Just as the seeds of the eucalyptus trees in Australia can’t germinate until they are exposed to the intense heat of a forest fire, so, too, there may be deep parts of ourselves that are activated only when the shallower layers are stripped away.

And it isn’t just about survival; it is about growth and transformation. The new you that comes through the blast of change will not be just a shadow of your former self, but truly a new you, with deeper layers of your personal potential exposed and invited to grow and flourish. For example, through apparent disaster you may discover skills you never knew you had. You may discover qualities that had never previously been called upon, such as resilience, patience, ingenuity, empathy with others going through similar upheavals, and even a sense of humor to laugh through the tears and glimpse the rainbow through the rain.
